Happy customers, happy birds

Testimonial from Juanita and Scott Ray

Our love for birds began quite by chance when Juanita found a newborn sparrow nearly 20 years ago. It had fallen out of its nest and was lying helplessly behind our house. She hand-fed it and built it a warm nest out of a coffee filter and cotton. It grew bigger and stronger, and was eventually able to feed itself. And when he was fully grown, we set him free.

A while later, we got several finches and canaries and kept them in cages along the living room wall. We also built a small outdoor aviary, which soon seemed too small, so we expanded it to twice its original size.

By then, in addition to finches and canaries, we also had cockatiels, lovebirds, and pigeons. In 2010, all the birds had to move to the outdoor aviary. Scott was physically limited due to surgery and needed the space in the apartment for himself.

However, that didn’t stop us from renovating the outdoor aviary. In 2014, we built a brand-new metal aviary that was nearly 7.5 meters long. Unfortunately, the metal began to rust after a while, so in 2023 we built a new aviary using redwood logs.

Although our aviary is located outdoors, the roof prevents direct sunlight from entering. The mosquito nets and cages inside the aviary also block the light. We needed a light that mimics sunlight—a full-spectrum LED lamp—to brighten up the dark aviary. After a long search, we came across the HappyBird lamps. We were thrilled with the digital timer, which gently fades the light on and off.

That was exactly what we were looking for! So we ordered one lamp to test it out and installed it in our aviary. We were immediately impressed by both the outstanding quality and the easy installation. But it quickly became clear that a single bird lamp was nowhere near enough for our large aviary.

So, after a friendly phone call with HappyBird owner Mark, we decided to get more lamps and timers. We now have over 20 lamps in our outdoor aviary, each connected in rows of five.

The aviary is now beautifully lit, and our birds feel as though they’re basking in sunlight. They seem very happy, and our outdoor aviary shines with a new brilliance.
